Desire with Your Body, Not Your Mind
The other night when I was pouring on the lubricant, I realized in a totally visceral way, that it's through waking up my body that my mind slowly gets the message I am or could be sexually aroused.
I know this shouldn’t surprise me now, yet it's still easy for me to get caught in the trap of believing that it is through my mind that I "get in the mood".
The Truth
The truth for me is that my body holds secrets of sexual desire that can sometimes be remembered with an act as small as the application of moist, cool lubricant gel.
Remember the old days, when vaginal wetness was a fact of life and arousal happened sometimes without even noticing it. Those body memories are stored deep in our psyche, and triggering them can be as easy as finding the right lubrication. This has been particularly true for me with both the number of children I’ve birthed and the years I spent nursing them. After our third child it all but disappeared and after the fourth, much of my sexual experience became largely painful, so lubricant needs became paramount.
Searching For Products
Though, I looked for products to help with my discomfort for years, most only served to further irritate the situation. Soaking myself in late night baths, I often wondered what was wrong with me, and why none of these products were helping me enjoy sex. Being exhausted with burning genitals, instead of feeling satisfied made it easy to believe that the problem was with me, not the products.
Eventually I fell upon an oil based lubricant that changed my sex life. It was such an amazing product that when it was gone, I of course, tried for months to replace it. Needless to say, I had no luck, finally I tracked down the alchemist and thus started the journey that has become the heart of Good Clean Fun. I started the company with five different love oil/lubricants that were infused with aromatic aphrodisiacs that actually got me turned on in addition to relieving any burning sensations. Water Based Lubricants
Unfortunately though, I learned that oil based lubricants are not among the top sellers (of lubricants). The big demand for lubricants is that they be latex compatible, and so that means water based. Many gynecologists also support the use of water based lubrication for sensitive tissue, but because of their chosen ingredient base, these lubricants are often the culprit of continuous irritation and yeast infections. Many of our early customers asked for a natural water based product, but looking at the competition was not a lot of help.
All Natural Ingredients
It took a lot of time, study and imagination to come up with a lubricant formula that was safe, healing and used preservatives that weren’t harmful. I am often surprised, how little education is available on what chemicals are found in popular lubricant brands. Almost all popular water based lubricants are made with petrochemicals such as propylene glycol, and polyethylene glycol - (primary ingredients in brake fluid, anti-freeze and oven cleaner.) Certainly none of these chemicals were designed for a woman’s most sensitive internal tissue.
Lubricants are frequently preserved with methyl and propyl-parabens which the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics - a research advocate arm of the Breast Cancer Fund, has recently identified as potentially carcinogenic and is working to stop their usage in all personal care products.
Another popular ingredient of water based lubricants is vegetable glycerin. There is some debate about glycerin - on the plus side, it is a great anti-bacterial agent and does provide a certain glide, but in large proportions has a tendency to inflame yeast problems and usually ends up very sticky and overly sweet.
Clean, Fresh Lubricants
I have studied product chemistry and really believe that many products suffer from a serious lack of imagination. Thanks to healthy collective questioning here and a great lab, we came up with our lubricant made with aloe vera, xanthum gum, agar-agar and a three tiered preservative system including less than 10% vegetable glycerin, benzoic acid and a naturally activated enzymatic formula which continuously preserves in the bottle.
